Since 2000, TRC has carried out the biannual Agency Universe Study, commissioned by Future One, a consortium of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America and independent agency companies.
The Study provides detailed descriptive information on the independent agency system, from the composition of agency staffs and revenues to the technology they use. Starting with the 2004 study, all data were collected by an Internet survey, to which agents were invited by e-mails. Each study emphasizes special topics, such as development of program markets in 2004 and wholesalers and other intermediary distributors in 2008.
