Determining the best combinations of Medicare Supplement plans and benefits

In preparation for the new set of standards for Medicare Supplement plans starting in 2010, a major national health insurance carrier wanted to identify the best combination of plans, ideal price points, and most preferred innovative benefits to offer to reach the greatest number of potential subscribers while limiting their total number of offerings.

Through the use of a discrete choice exercise and TURF analysis, TRC helped identify the best combination of plans and price points for the carrier to offer in each market. Profiling consumers by their most preferred plans, by state, and by age provided insights into marketing the new plans. The carrier was also able to glean from the data their brand equity, which gave them additional context for pricing and promoting the plans.
